The High Sheriff was invited to attend an extremely prestigious award ceremony, commending members across the Police Force in the Telford and Wrekin Policing Area who have in the last year proved themselves above and beyond the call of duty. The evening, held at the Holiday Inn at Telford, was arranged to recognise the outstanding commitment and dedication of the individuals being awarded.
The program was introduced by Superintendent Nav Malik, a charming, extremely inspiring, charismatic leader of the Police Force, who heads an area which serves a population of over 162,000. Awards were presented to about 35 Police Officers and Cadets of varying grades for showing extraordinary bravery and initiative whilst carrying out their duties. An introduction, to the circumstances of each award, each one absolutely fascinating to hear, was given by Chief Inspector David McWilliam, Detective Chief Inspector Jennie Mattinson, and Chief Inspector James Baker before an audience of those receiving the awards, along with the families and friends who came along to witness their nearest and dearest collect their certificates. Also in attendance was the Deputy Police Crime Commissioner Mr Barrie Sheldon, and the Community Ambassador, Sajid Younis.
It proved a fascinating, rewarding evening, highlighting the extreme challenges and dangers that our Police Force are constantly faced with on a daily basis, and one is left in awe at their professionalism at dealing with these extraordinary challenges.
