Shropshire celebrated the Coronation of TM King Charles III and Queen Camilla with street parties, lunches and various events across our beautiful county.
As High Sheriff, I was honoured to attend a number of events in the county and to be a ‘plus one’ at the amazing Coronation Concert that was held at Windsor Castle.
Stand out events for me were presenting Coronation Medals to children from three very rural schools in South Shropshire, having been invited by two Year Six pupils who wrote a lovely handwritten letter requesting my presence! It was a lovely morning, albeit rather cold and wet, and meeting all 90 pupils from the three primary schools as I gave each of them their special medal, along with their dedicated teachers and the many parents and carers who also attended. It was a real treat to be a part of such a lovely community event.
Mark and I also attended a wonderful concert to celebrate the Coronation held in Wem, North Shropshire where the fabulous Wem Jubilee Band treated the enthusiastic audience to an excellent afternoon of music. Singing along to Land of Hope and Glory in full High Sheriff dress is something I (and the rest of the audience) won’t forget in a hurry!
The Sunday after the Coronation we were so fortunate to attend the Concert held at Windsor, and to be blessed with such wonderful weather. The quality of the production was mind blowing and we had the most fantastic time.
After the concert we headed straight back to Shropshire to attend a Coronation Lunch organised through the Chinese Arts and Cultural Centre in Telford where we were treated to demonstrations of Tai Chi and Qigong and the most incredible Chinese ink painting, all followed by a wonderful Chinese banquet lunch.
My final stand out event was a Coronation Tea Party organised by the Shrewsbury Drapers Company for their almshouses residents. It was such a lovely event, and along with being blessed with good weather, it was the perfect ending of the Coronation week.
