Superintendent James Tozer, Shropshire Police Area, invited the High Sheriff to the Citizens’ Academy Graduation Ceremony held at Shrewsbury Police Station. The inaugural Citizen’ Academy has been running at Shrewsbury Policing Area, following its start in September 2014. The concept behind the Citizens’ Academy is that a group of individuals are given access and information about Policing services in a course type process over a period of weeks. Furthermore, it is generally hoped that the graduates of the academy will serve to be advocates of the service and more likely to present a positive side of policing in any further interaction. It is hoped that the academies will then be rolled out to other Policing areas across the alliance and departments, either in their current format, or bespoke to bespoke to specific areas or issues. On successful completion of the course each attendee will be awarded a certificate to commemorate their ‘graduation’.
