On Wednesday 26th November, the High Sheriff visited RAF Shawbury with Susan Sellars the High Sheriff of Cheshire and Councillor Beverley Baker, The Mayor of Shrewsbury. The party was escorted throughout the day by Squadron Leader Kim Leach.
The visit included the Hawk fighter jet refurbishment department (including Red Arrows planes), the helicopter flying school led by Colonel Facer, the helicopter flight simulator, air traffic control training centre including the most impressive airport tower simulator. Not least we were shown the Community Centre managed by Gail Moore and the activities families at the base can get involved in.
Our day was hosted by Group Captain Alastair Smith, The Station Commander who enlightened us as to how the station functioned, where their pupils come from and RAF Shawbury’s connections with Shropshire
