At the invitation of the High Sheriff of Staffordshire, Humphrey Scott-Moncrieff, DL, Veronica and I spent a very memorable day at the National Memorial Arboretum (see http://www.thenma.org.uk/), together with the High Sheriffs of Cheshire, Derbyshire and Worcestershire. It was both moving and inspirational to see over 300 memorials set amongst beautifully arranged plantations of trees. The memorials vary enormously in type and size, and commemorate the participants in individual battles, regiments, ships, squadrons etc. At the centre of the Arboretum is the imposing Armed Forces Memorial which commemorates those who have been killed in action since WWII. I would recommend anyone to visit the Arboretum and particularly those who have a connection with the armed services.
