Veronica and I attended the Oswestry Charity Balloon Festival at the British Ironwork Centre in aid of Nightingale Hospice, a Wrexham charity that provides vital palliative care for terminally ill patients both in Wales and across North Shropshire. I arrived in time to announce the arrival of a stunt airplane, which had flown over from the airstrip at Whitchurch and gave us a very fine display. Two balloons were expected to take off shortly afterwards but this had to be postponed owing to gusting winds. However, on Sunday night the “Night Glow” with 50 illuminated balloons taking off at regular intervals around dusk was a great success, and the event raised a significant sum of money for Nightingale Hospice.
