At the invitation of the High Sheriff of Cheshire, Sarah Callender Beckett, Veronica and I joined a visit to Jodrell Bank Observatory, together with the surrounding High Sheriffs from Clwyd, Cumbria, Lancashire, Manchester and Staffordshire. We were treated to a series of talks on the development of the Observatory, the plans for the future and the aboretum set up by Sir Bernard Lovell. We walked around the the original telescope erected by Sir Bernard in 1957 and visited the Orrery. We greatly enjoyed the day and I would urge all those who have not already done so to visit the Observatory, particularly if they have children of school age.
